An error is not a sale
A promotion is a price the seller chose. A pricing error is a price the seller did not intend — a decimal in the wrong place, a bulk-upload feed that mapped the wrong field, a currency conversion applied twice. The two look identical on a product page, which is why the only way to tell them apart is history.
We compare every listing against its own trading record on Amazon UK over the previous 90 days, never against an RRP or a seller-supplied "was" price. A £40 item at £32 is a promotion. The same item at £3.99, on a listing that has not been below £35 in three months, is something else.
What happens when you order one
Be realistic about this. Under long-standing UK contract law a displayed price is an invitation to treat, not an offer, so a retailer is generally entitled to cancel a transparently mispriced order before it is dispatched. Some go out of the door. Plenty do not.
What a retailer cannot do is take your money and keep it. If an order is cancelled you are entitled to a refund, and if it has already shipped the position is different again. Your rights when an order is cancelled sets out where you actually stand.
